Why Chaplaincy

I grew up as an atheist, came to Christ in University, and got involved in ministry.  After serving with Campus for Christ for over twelve years, I then served at Burnett Fellowship in Maple Ridge for over thirteen.  After I resigned from Burnett, I connected with a Chaplain buddy of mine and started volunteering at Fraser Regional Correctional Centre in Maple Ridge.  Last year I was hired as a Chaplain at Surrey Pretrial Services Centre.

While I know I’m still in the honeymoon stage of my job, I love working for BC Corrections.  Every week I have incredible opportunities to share my faith and to try to break the cycle of recidivism.  God can use individuals who are comfortable working in an environment that is not safe.  We have Centres in Victoria, Nanaimo, Port Coquitlam, Surrey, Maple Ridge, Chilliwack, Kamloops, Oliver and Prince George.

And many of those Centres will need Chaplains in the future.  The only treasure the church has is Jesus.  And the true message about Him – the Gospel – is ultimately what these Centres need.  If you’re interested in volunteering or curious about serving as a Chaplain, I’d love to chat with you.

Warmly,

Brad Warner
